FAQ

What is density?

Wig density is defined as how thin or thick the hair will be on your wig. The popular density for natural looking wigs are 120%. Density is the number of hairs inserted in the lace wig per square inch. The more inserted closely with determine the density or thickness of the wig.

LOW DENSITY

Use light products that won’t reduce its volume and weigh it down. Consider using volumizing and dry shampoos. Volumizing conditioners with thickening agents will assist the hair in looking fuller. The use of mousse with a voluminous agent will give the appearance of thicker hair. Also leave-in conditioners containing thickening ingredients are quite helpful. Rounded hairstyles will give low density hair extra volume and bounce.

MEDIUM DENSITY

Texture can be enhanced by a variety of styles, haircuts and products. Heavier creams and butters will give your hair more weight and allow it to hang. Dry shampoo and mousse can also be used if you desire to increase the volume. Popular styles include altering your curl pattern with the use of twists and braids. Also, simple Wash ‘n ‘go’s will allow your natural texture to shine through. You can be amazingly creative with medium density hairstyles!

HIGH DENSITY

Thicker density will require heavy products (such as butters, gels and cremes) to reduce volume and hold your curls together. There is an assortment of styling products available that are great for this type of density. Normally, layered hairstyles are best supported high density hair.

That is the best styles and products to use by hair density type

Medium Density – Very little of your scalp can be viewed.

High Density – The scalp is difficult or impossible to see.

DENSITY LEVELS FOR LACE WIGS

Light Density (60%) is thin and does not have much volume. A full wig at 60% is great for elderly clients. Light to Medium Density (100%) is described as having a light density at the hairline and a medium density throughout the remaining area of the wig. Light to Medium density is the most natural looking and is highly requested for custom lace fronts as well as full lace wigs. Medium Density (100% – 120%) is the average density level. Medium to Heavy Density (130 – 150%+) is extremely thick and doesn’t appear to be very natural. Performers usually desire to have wigs created with this density.

For hair bundles, the longer the length of the bundle the more hair you will need. The longer the hair, the shorter the weft. Remember that the bundles are measured by weight. Shorter length bundles are conveniently thicker than longer bundles. Normally, 3 bundles will be more than enough for most hairstyles. Also, virgin hair naturally thins out toward the roots, so more bundles may be required for added volume.

How should I determine how many bundles I will need to achieve my desired style?

The chart below will assist you with deciding how many bundles you will need based on length only. Remember that shorter length bundles are thicker than longer bundles. Three bundles of hair are usually sufficient to complete a hairstyle. (see attached chart)

The average size of a woman’s head in the U.S. is 22.5” inches.

You will need to adjust the amount of bundles purchased to accommodate your head size. Simply measure the circumference of your head and view the head measurement chart to determine your head size. Circumference will measure the perimeter of your head. Starting at the center of the front hairline, place the measuring tape flat against your head and completely guide it around your head. Position the measuring tape just above the ear, down towards the nape area and back around to the center of the front hairline. For ear to ear (across the hairline) measurement, begin by placing the tape right above one ear and angle the tape so that it can be guided along your hairline until reaching the top of the other ear. Front to Nape will measure the length of your head from the front to the nape of your neck. The nape is located where your neck bends if you were to tilt your head back and look up. This is also where the bottom of the wig should sit to prevent shifting when the head tilts.

Starting at the front hairline, measure over the top of your head down to the nape area. For temple to temple measurements, place the measuring tape at one temple area and guide it along the back of your head until reaching the other temple area.

For this measurement, it is extremely important to wear your hair exactly how you plan on wearing it under the wig! This will decrease the chance of your wig not fitting properly.

Ear to Ear (Over the Top) measures your head for the top of the wig base. Place the measuring tape against your head at the top edge of your ear and go directly across the top of your head to the top edge of the opposite ear.

Place the measuring tape at the lowest point of your neck hairline and measure across the neck to the opposite side. This will measure the width of your neck. Style or braid your hair how you plan to wear it under the wig before taking head measurements. This will ensure the proper fit. Use soft measuring tape.

Measure your head 4 times to obtain totally accurate numbers.

What is Remy hair vs. non-remy hair ?

Remy human hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because the cuticles are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-remy hair extensions. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion creates extensions that are completely natural in appearance. Non Remy human hair is human hair that is collected from multiple sources. Non Remy is sold in its raw state and also as a finished product. In raw form the cuticles are intact but they flow in opposite directions, the hair can easily be tangled if not maintained properly.

What is virgin human hair?

Virgin hair is chemically unprocessed human hair, which is collected from a single donor. The virgin hair is Remy hair that has not been altered by dyes, perms, bleaches or harsh washes. Virgin hair & Remy hair is collected in a method in which all hair strands stay aligned in the natural direction as it grew (i.e. holding the hair in a ponytail and cutting), top at top, and ends at ends, to maintain the natural texture pattern and cuticle direction. This eliminates tangling problems commonly found in non-Remy or low quality hair.

What qualities should I look for when purchasing hair ?

Remy vs non-rely, wefting style, hair type, weight and chemical treatments are all things to look for when deciding on the better quality of hair to buy.

Remy hair means ask the cuticles in the hair remain in tact and facing in the same direction. This means the hair is less likely to shed/or tangle. Double wefted hair is less prone to shedding and can last longer. Always look for 100% human hair, and ensure it is from a single donor, meaning it came from one person. This means it is more likely to be of higher quality. The weight of the bundle of hair is indicative of how much hair you will receive within the bundle. In general, one bundle is between 95-100 grams. If you are told that hair is 100% virgin but also says it has been chemically treated then be weary. Hair bundles cannot both be 100% virgin and chemically treated. The chemical treatment process disrupts the virgin state.

What differentiates low, medium and high grade hair extensions?

In today’s human hair market, there are basically 3 tiers of hair extension: Low Grade, Middle Grade, High Grade. Not everyone is looking for the most expensive hair. That’s why the markets need different hair grades, which means people are purchasing products that are right for them. Low-grade hair has a very short lifespan, but its price is very cheap. This hair type has the following features: Mixed with animal or synthetic fibers, etc. Non-Remy human hair, cuticle not intact. Chemically treated. Hair manufacturer uses color or silicone in the process of hair manufacturing. But if you are only looking for low-cost options, then this would be for you. Now on to mid-grade and high-grade hair. If one company has higher quality hair extension like 6A, 7A, 8A, 10A, etc. hair grades, you can relatively say 11A extension is the best hair. Generally, it’s without question. So what’s the difference between these hair grades? The biggest difference is the ratio of relatively shorter hairs in a bundle. The higher the grade, the less a percentage of short hairs in a bundle.
